The world's longest wooden dragon boat was rowed by 180 female paddlers on the river in Shibing County of southwest China's Guizhou Province on Thursday, the day which marks this year's Duanwu Festival.

The female paddlers in traditional clothes from the Miao ethnic group were seen rowing hard to the drumbeats of skippers and to the cheers from riverside spectators, creating beautiful scenery.

The 12-ton boat, 78 meters long and 2.6 meters wide, is made of 188 pieces of Cunninghamia, a class of cypress tree.

"The wood is not perishable and very light. Meanwhile, it's easy to make," said Zhang Xianren, national-level inheritor of dragon-boat making.

Zhang also said the boat took eight craftsmen in two months to build, carve and paint.

On May 28, a total of 1,600 strong Miao men carried the giant wooden dragon boat to the riverside. Then the boat was lowered in the river by a crane.

Currently, the dragon boat has applied to set a new Guinness World Record as the longest wooden dragon boat. The application has received preliminary confirmation from the organization.

It's said a dragon boat museum will be built in Shibing where the wooden dragon boat is exhibited.
